We consider all mountain bikes that are available for purchase by consumers in a given calendar year. We evaluate the bikes on the following criteria:

Ridability: performance when ridden by veteran mountain bike riders.
Reliability: warranty info and how well does the bike frame hold up.
Value: the best dollar for dollar value as well as resale price.

MountainBikeofTheYear.com is a think-tank group of educators, researchers, consumers and mountain bikers based in Ithaca, NY. Residing in the shadows of Cornell University and Ithaca College allows us to sample a talent pool that is among the brightest and best available.
